Your Child’s Participation in the Planet Frame Youth Film Project

Planet Frame is an international youth film initiative inviting students to create short video essays and films about nature, the environment, and the future of our planet.

The project does not require any previous film experience — just a desire to express ideas using a phone, voice, and simple video tools.

Why it matters

  • Helps students build creative thinking and self-expression

  • Encourages environmental awareness and reflection

  • Gives teens a real chance to be heard and see their work shared publicly

 What will your child do?

  • Create a video essay or short film (3–10 minutes) on a theme such as:

    • Nature, climate, the environment

    • Changes they notice in the world

    • Reflections on the future and personal responsibility

  • Use a smartphone, tablet, or simple camera

  • Work individually or in teams

  • Videos can include:

    • Narration or voiceover, poetry, personal stories

    • Images, music, animation

    • Text, slides, or their own video footage

 Who can participate?

  • Middle and high school students, ages 12 to 19

  • From any school or community in Morganton or Burke County, North Carolina

 How to submit the video?

  1. Save the video in .mp4 or .mov format (minimum 720p resolution)

  2. Submit it through the website: www.planetframe.net

  3. Or upload to Google Drive / YouTube and share a public link

  4. Include the following information:

    • Student’s full name

    • Age

    • School / City

    • Title of the video

    • 2–3 sentence description

 What happens next?

  • Selected videos will be included in a film anthology

  • The anthology will be presented at an educational event, and shared on the project’s website and YouTube channel

  • All participants will receive digital certificates, and winners will receive prizes and recognition

  • Participation is free of charge

How parents can help

  • Encourage your child to choose a topic they care about

  • Support them during planning, filming, or editing

  • Make sure their submission is uploaded successfully

  • Ensure that only free and safe content is used (music, images, video clips)
