Film Lab 2026

Are you a local middle school, high school, or college student interested in nature, science, the environment, or storytelling?
Join the Planet Frame Film Lab 2026 and create your first short film or video essay.
No filmmaking experience is required.
Throughout the summer, participants will explore local rivers, streams, lakes, water quality, watershed science, and environmental research while learning how to transform their observations into meaningful visual stories.
The Planet Frame team will help participants:

Develop a story idea

Plan and organize filming

Edit footage

Prepare a final film for public screening
Participants will receive:

Creative mentoring and filmmaking support

Step-by-step guidance throughout the project

Opportunity to screen their film during Planet Frame International Youth Film Festival 2026
Selected films will be screened on a large outdoor screen in downtown Morganton during the festival.

Water Quality & Watershed Science Award
Create a film about water quality, rivers, lakes, watersheds, environmental research, or ecological issues affecting our communities.
